Bhutan and Modernity:Responding to Change.
A morning filled with insightful conversation on Bhutan and how it responds to change. A conversation attended by the young and the young-at-heart.
On September 14, we launched the third issue of the Druk Journal in a cozy conversation setting attended by forty two participants from civil society, media, academia, political parties, contributing authors and other individuals.
The conversation along with a hot cup of suja (butter tea) provided an informal atmosphere and that aims to help build a community of thinkers through frank and open conversations, which will continue to discuss and debate the ideas and issues raised by the Journal.
Dasho Kinley Dorji, editor of the journal, moderated discussions on how Bhutan has gone through several stages of development, from infrastructure to social services, and had reached the age of information. Discussions on the rapid political transition our society has seen and an agreement on how it is time for Bhutanese citizens to share the responsibility of governance were highlights of the conversation. Also present was BCMD's partner, the Director of the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy, Mr Bjorn Forde, who shared views on democratic change and on globalisation.
The conversation invited the participants to give meaningful pointers and ideas that the journal could explore in the next edition scheduled to be produced in December, 2016. Suggestions were discussed and the fourth issue of the Druk Journal will be on Youth Matters. Check out our website for more information.
